Way down south in the Lot Region of France, just off the tranquil Célé river near the small village of Cabrerets in a stunning valley of woods and cliffs lies a very special B&B called The Auberge de la Sagne. Set in a remarkably beautiful corner of France just a stones throw from the famous Pech Merle cave with it’s prehistoric paintings and surrounded by fantastic walking country along with some of the most picturesque villages in France this B&B is a perfect destination in it’s own right.
It is not often that a B&B suggest that you go somewhere else but we figure that if you are planning to go to France soon anyway then we should direct you to somewhere worth going to. Now at this point we do indeed have to declare an interest in this B&B because it has recently been set up and is being run by Alison’s brother, Richard, along with his wife, Jane.
Some of the following photos were taken prior to Richard & Jane taking over the property, already a stunning place which they have further enhanced themselves.
Richard and Jane have had a passion for the French way of life and have enjoyed holidays there for some 30 years. They have had a holiday home there for several years and totally immerse themselves in the French culture and way of life. Taking advantage of their natural skills they decided to follow in our footsteps and have bought a really beautiful little hotel which was, like The Old Bakery, in need of a little TLC. Making best use of the Covid lockdowns they have thoroughly renovated the property inside and out turning it into a really rather special B&B.
Jane is a master of interior design and decor creating really lovely rooms using her skills such as sewing and reupholstering to add that personal touch.
Richard has a passion for cooking and they offer evening meals that the guests frequently praise highly, especially the French guests which is quite something for a Brit. in France to achieve!
The grounds are quite beautiful too with a lovely patio to relax in, gardens with walnut trees, a superb meadow and a swimming pool to unwind in after any one of a number of fantastic local walks.
The surrounding area is quite something. Within walking distance there are the Pech Merle caves with their amazingly well preserved prehistoric paintings dating back some 25,000 years BC! There are walks everywhere and just driving around the area offers jaw dropping scenery with pretty villages perched, seemingly precariously, high on cliffs and roads & tracks carved into the cliffs themselves…..
The rivers are ideal to canoe down and of course you have the cafes and restaurants tucked away in the little villages that so epitomise France.
The outstanding natural beauty of The Lot region is reason alone to make a booking with Richard & Jane but we also like to feel that perhaps knowing that these two are from the same ‘stock’ as us you can be reassured of their excellent service. Another bonus is that their native tongue is English and so they can be of great help with anything that you may need to know.
They are situated in a position that can easily be reached by car from either Toulouse or Bordeaux and they would make the perfect 3 night stop over on a driving tour of the area taking in the sights such as the medieval town of Cahors.
